Board Of Directors

Kairos Public Schools (KPS) is an independent not for profit 501c3 public benefit corporation. The Kairos Public School Board of Directors is legally and fiscally responsible for employees, policy, budget, and program. KPS receives its funding according to ADA (average daily attendance) directly from the state of California.

Established in 2013, KPS is authorized by the Vacaville Unified School District (VUSD) but operates autonomously of VUSD. The Vacaville Unified School District appoints one member to the KPS Board of Directors.

Kairos Public Schools has had a long collaborative partnership with VUSD in educating the public school students in Vacaville, CA

Riley Collins was born and raised in Solano County. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Boston College, she attended law school at Santa Clara University where she earned her J.D. in 2011. Riley pursued a career in the Napa wine industry, helping wineries with licensing, compliance and land use issues. She currently serves on the board of the Green Valley Agricultural Conservancy, supporting sustainable growth and preservation of agricultural land in Middle Green Valley, Solano County.

As a former charter school student, Riley understands the important role charter schools play in educational choice. She hopes to contribute to the growth of Kairos, supporting the school’s mission of encouraging students to be active participants in their education and leaders in their community.

Dr. John L. Corpus, OD has been an optometrist for over 15 yrs. He is a first generation Filipino-American, who grew up in South Jersey suburbs just outside Philadelphia, PA. He attended public school K-8th and then was fortunate to attend two Catholic, college-preparatory High Schools one in New Jersey and the other in the East Bay. After four years as an undergrad UCLA, he pursued his doctorate degree at UC Berkeley. After 10 years pursuing various partnerships in private practice sector, Dr. Corpus was hired as a staff optometrist at the Vacaville campus, Kaiser Permanente Napa Solano Area.  From 2016-2021, he was elected as the local shop steward and also served as a unit board member for IFPTE, Local 20 (the bargaining unit for optometrists within KP). Currently, Dr. Corpus serves as the chief/area manager for Napa Solano Kaiser optometry department. At Kairos, he served as the committee chair and cub-master for Kairos’s Cubscouts Pack 196 from 2016-2020. He now has all four of his children as scholars at Kairos. Happily married to his wife Sarah, a labor and delivery RN, this couple are both busy running around raising their family and teaching them about life, responsibility, and faith. The Corpus clan enjoys camping, hiking, and traveling to National Parks. Grateful and living the dream.

Jessica CJessica Carvalho is a dedicated advocate for parent choice in education and a passionate proponent of homeschooling. As a mother of three homeschooled children, Jessica has firsthand experience in personalized education and understands the unique challenges and rewards it brings. Her commitment to providing quality education tailored to each child's needs has driven her to actively support and promote parent choice within her community. 

Jessica's advocacy work includes engaging with local educational authorities, participating in community discussions, and helping other parents navigate the educational landscape. Her dedication to empowering parents to make the best educational choices for their children has made her a respected voice in the community. 

In addition to her advocacy, Jessica brings a wealth of practical knowledge and a compassionate perspective to her role, making her an invaluable member of the Kairos board. Her experience and passion continue to inspire and support the mission of providing diverse educational opportunities for all children.

 Jeff Fletcher - BOARD MEMBER Term ends 6.30.25   Contact via Email

Mr. Fletcher was raised in Los Angeles.  After graduating from UC Santa Barbara with a BA in both Business Economics and Religious Studies, he moved to Vacaville and married his wife Stacy.  At this time the Fletcher Family became a military family, living in Maryland, Nebraska, and Germany with times in Vacaville in between.  During this time Jeff received his MBA from Arizona State, and worked for a national homebuilder doing finance and project management for several different projects valued at over $400 million dollars.  Jeff, a father of three, homeschooled his children while living in Germany, and became a homeschool parent at Kairos Innovative Scholars Program (KISP) upon returning to permanently reside in Vacaville again. He currently has all 3 children on-site at the Kairos Foundations and Leadership Academy Campus.  He has served on the Kairos Parent Advisory Council for three years in the positions of KISP Board Member, Vice President and Treasurer.  In his free time, Jeff enjoys camping with his family, fishing, and playing guitar.

Leah Parker has been a Solano County resident since 1986. She lived on a ranch and grew up actively involved in 4H, Girls Scouts, AWANA Club, and volleyball. Living between Solano County and Yolo County enabled her to attend schools in both Winters and Vacaville, private and public. Her love for teaching began at a young age, spending summers playing “teacher” and using old textbooks to teach her sister. After high school, she attended Biola University in La Mirada, CA, where she majored in Psychology and minored in Biblical Studies. She moved home in 2005 when she was hired on as the Service Learning teacher at Buckingham Charter Magnet High School. She helped to establish Buckingham’s first Volleyball team as the assistant coach in 2005, advancing to Head Coach in 2006. She helped restructure the BCAL program, and both taught and developed curriculum for classes such as Student Leadership, Keyboarding, Computer Literacy, and Work Experience. She has a passion for building leaders and equipping them to positively contribute and impact the community. Leah married in 2007 and became a mother in 2008.  When her second son was born in 2010, she decided to switch to a career that would allow her the flexibility to stay home with her new family. In 2006, while teaching at Buckingham, she sought out an apprenticeship with a wedding photographer on the weekends. In 2011, she decided to invest her time in her photography business and transitioned to a career as a professional photographer. While growing her new business, Leah Dawn Photography, she’s had many opportunities to shoot events around the community including the grand opening of the Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th in the Nut Tree Plaza. She enjoys giving back to her community whenever she can and serves as a Sunday school teacher once a month at her church. She currently has three children, all who attend KPSVA, and enjoys being involved in the Kairos community, connecting with other parents and finding ways for the children to thrive.

 

Advisors to the Board

 TIM KRUSE - 

Mr. Kruse was raised in the San Diego area with strong family values and a great mixture of country living and wonderful beaches. He worked in movie theatre operations and was promoted to a regional position in Northern California about 17 years ago. After an illustrious 25 year career, with awards in marketing, management and customer service, Mr. Kruse retired from this profession. For the next 5 years Mr. Kruse ran a Health and Nutrition company as an owner and Chief Operations Officer. He was responsible for all facets of the daily operation along with marketing, technology and international expansion and helped grow sales 500% during his tenure. More recently Mr. Kruse worked as a Territory Manager and Realtor for California Outdoor Properties, focusing on buying and selling Ranches and Ag Land, along with commercial and residential sales. In January of 2014, he and his business partner started their own firm called Green Fields Real Estate of California, headquartered here in Vacaville.

In his free time, he enjoys hiking, outdoor sports, and creative landscaping, along with his wonderful wife and two daughters. He has also been very involved in the community and in coaching youth basketball. Mr. Kruse is passionate about providing educational choices, creating friendly competition that breeds long term success.

 Jason Perry - Board Advisor

Jason Perry was born and raised in Sacramento, California, and moved to Monterey County at the age of 13. With a successful career as a Senior Account Executive in Sales, Jason is known for his ability to connect with local businesses and provide exceptional customer service. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he is a dedicated husband and father, as well as a respected leader in his community. Jason's commitment to fostering strong relationships and his active involvement in community initiatives underscore his multifaceted role as both a business professional and a community leader.

 ELLEN BECKMANN-JONES

Mrs. Beckmann-Jones brings a wealth of experience to the founding Board. She has served the educational community since 1972, as a teacher and counselor. Mrs. Beckmann-Jones spent seventeen years as a teacher and ten years as a counselor at Vacaville Unified School District’s two comprehensive middle schools. She was an active participant for Willis Jepson Jr. High’s School Site Council district committee, investigating alternative block-schedules outside of the State of California and for the Regional Middle School Consortium, comprised of other surrounding Solano counties. For over twenty years she served in leadership roles within the District as representative, department chair, executive middle school director, and grievance representative for the local teachers union, VTA.

In 2000, Mrs. Beckmann-Jones chose to accept the counseling position at Buckingham Charter Magnet High School. Mrs. Beckmann-Jones served Buckingham families for a decade, until her retirement in 2010. She has extensive experience working with students in mapping out four-year plans, resourcing career searches, college admission protocols, test preparation, and financial aid. She also has served as a consultant and committee member for the Buckingham School Leadership Council, WASC Accreditation, California Distinguished School, US Department of Education Blue Ribbon Schools, and Charter Renewal, which involved working with the VUSD Superintendent and Cabinet members.

Honored in 2005 as Buckingham’s Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Beckmann-Jones prides herself in having a passion for working with students and parents to enrich their educational experience of life-long learning, gratified by the development of personal relationships along the way.Mrs. Beckmann-Jones holds a Bachelors Degree from San Jose State University, a Masters of Science in Counseling, and a Public Personnel Services Credential from the University of La Verne.
